Swimmers of the Month - December 2025

1 Michael Johnson joined the Rapids this October as a Mini, and within a short amount of time had already progressed enough to move up to Class 1. He is a very consistent swimmer, attending practice regularly and listening to his coach. Michael always has a smile and a cheerful hello when you see him.

1.5 Ben Pohl has been working super hard to improve his swimming; mastering the breaststroke, developing some consistency with his turns, and learning to swim smarter when under pressure. He has attended both Regional meets, making steady progress at not getting DQ’d and taking off time. He has also been working hard at leadership skills and being a supportive teammate, and I expect him to do equally well when he moves up to Class 2.

2 Lennon Dopko is a very consistent swimmer, attending practices regularly and focusing on the task at hand. She had a fantastic meet in Kitimat, taking off a cumulative 30 seconds and successfully completing her first 100 fly. Lennon also attained her very first A time in the 50 freestyle (woohoo!) and had a spectacular 200IM just missing the A time in that, too.

3 Leah Malthus is another very consistent swimmer. She’s a solid teammate, she can read the clock, she always knows what the set is, she can count (most of the time), she never complains (well, almost never), and she attends virtually every practice and every meet. She has an impressive repertoire of events for still only being 10, and she took off a whopping 5 seconds in her 50 fly at the  Kitimat meet.

456 Emily Tran is having an amazing year. She moved up to our senior group, and has risen to the increased level of expectations. First off, she attends all the practices, and does all the things.  She has had 2 great meets already this year, and Kitimat makes a third. She took off 42 seconds in her 400 IM which is a new Div time, and 49 seconds in her 400 free breaking 6 minutes. And topped it off with dropping 15 s in the 100 fly!
