Swimmers of the Month - February 2025
Okay, I think I finally got this sorted!! Coach Cheryl had a Very Challenging February, and is positively ecstatic to see it behind us. Part of that “challenge” was that, despite reading my list just before I began speaking, I still named the wrong person for class 3 when I announced to the kids— Paige won in January, not February. Sigh. That’s okay, everyone makes mistakes.
Class 1 Abigail Bright joined our club last season, and has swum at several TriDuel meets. Lately she has been putting in extra effort, making it to every practice and getting out on deck and into the water on time. Congratulations Abby, we’ve noticed.
Class 1.5 Jayden Daigle has been swimming with the club for a couple years, and attended her first out of town Regional swim meet the end of January. She was a welcome addition to our relay teams, that’s for sure. Hopefully we can talk her into attending more swim meets!
Class 2 Alex Smithanik is one of our most consistent swimmers. He shows up to practice on time, always knows what we’re supposed to be doing, and conscientiously works on drills and stroke improvement. And it’s paying off; despite not being able to swim on the Sunday he medaled at the Terrace meet. As well as taking off scads of time, especially in breaststroke. A swimmer to watch for in the future.
3 Elijah Kroeker-Wilson has been with the club for a while, but lately he’s been putting in a special effort and it’s paying off at swim meets with lots of best times, chipping away the seconds in his quest for his first A time. He’s so close, I know it’s going to happen soon.
456 Lia Crump is a long time Rapid, and one of our TriDuel Team Captains. Lia has been doing a lot of cross training this year, and it’s paid off for her. She swam a whole bunch of best times at Divisionals, making finals, attaining her first AA time to qualify for ManSask this summer, and FINALLY breaking 3:00 in her 200 breaststroke. Well done, Lia.
(You might notice this month’s photo is ever so subtly different from the rest of them, somewhat reflective of the current chaos. Alex, who never misses practice, wasn’t there today so I improvised with the photo retake)
