Swimmers of the Month October 2024
October has been a productive month for the club, with both an in-house TriDuel Meet and hosting the first Regional Meet of the season. We had excellent attendance at both, with many swimmers trying out their very first TriDuel Meet, and then a bunch of Class 1.5’s and “new 2’s” giving their first Regional Meet a shot. Rupert fielded nearly 60 swimmers out of the 150 who attended the biggest competition we’ve hosted in over 20 years.
Let me introduce October’s winners…
1 Finn Portelance - a returning swimmer, Finn has matured into quite a decent athlete, with excellent attendance and pretty good listening skills. He’s on track for a great season.
1.5 Victoria Le - brand new to the club this season, she has leapt into competitive swimming with both feet, attending her first TriDuel meet within a couple weeks of joining the club, and then jumping right to Regional Meets with a whole month of swim club under her belt. Victoria’s attendance is excellent, as is her willingness to listen and learn, but what sets her apart is how she’s determined to give anything and everything a try.
2 Olin Tree - is on her third season with the club, and she’s a very conscientious swimmer whose hard work is paying off. She went 7 for 7 best times at the Rupert meet and took off scads of time.
3 Anshi Kumar - has an excellent attendance record, and fantastic listening skills and willingness to try. She too took off scads of time at the recent meet. Anshi and Olin , along with Bethany, made up 3/4 of our actual honest to goodness 13/14 girls B relay team. Yes, we actually have enough 13-14 year old girls to make 2 relay teams !
456 Samantha & Bethany Sumanik - the Sumanik sisters moved up to Class 4 at the end of last season, taking on the enormous added training load, and are producing amazing results. They consistently attend practices, including Saturdays, and almost always know what they are supposed to be doing. At the Rupert meet they both were 7 for 7 best times (well, 6 best times and a new time in a new event), with Betty taking off an unprecedented 79 seconds from her 200 freestyle (yes, 200m) while Sam scored her first two Divisional Times.
